IOTA uses its own network called "Tangle." Tangle is an innovative data structure that acts as the heart of IOTA; it is based on a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) and allows each new transaction on the network to be added to the end of the graph, linked to two previous transactions, confirming them. In turn, future transactions will connect to this new transaction, creating an interconnected network of validations. This network is what is known as "Tangle."

However, this is set to change with the arrival of IOTA EVM and its ability to execute Ethereum smart contracts, which will enhance the network's capabilities. As a result, the IOTA token could see a significant revaluation that allows it to reach €1 or more (currently, it is valued at €0.1 and its all-time high in 2017 was €5.32).

Currently, there is a fixed total and circulating supply of approximately 3.325 billion MIOTA.

It was founded by David Sønstebø, Sergey Ivancheglo, Dominik Schiener, and Dr. Serguei Popov in 2015.
